Why The Handkerchief

hand·ker·chief
ˈhaNGkərCHif,ˈhaNGkərCHēif
noun
noun: handkerchief; plural noun: handkerchiefs; plural noun: handkerchieves

a square of cotton or other finely woven material, typically carried in one's pocket and intended for blowing or wiping one's nose.

I wasn't sure if people remembered them so I thought I'd include a definition of them since they are my latest craze! Why handerchiefs? There are oh so many reasons that these relics form the not too distant past, should make a comeback in today's fashion accessory scene. Here are just a few:

Handkerchiefs are earth friendly! They can be machine washed and dryed and used over and over again.

Handkerciefs are handy, just pop one in your pocket when you are taking a walk or engaging in other outdoor activities, especially during the winter when the bite of  cold winter air tears up your eyes and makes your nose and eyes water or when the allergens in the Springtime air makes you sneeze. Instead of throwing away four or five waded up tissues, you can simply dump the one hanky into the wash and save some landfill.

Handkerchiefs make a statement! Back in the day, ladies went shopping in department stores to gaze upon the delicate and unique handkerchiefs they could buy that would add a bit of savior faire to their nose blowing. Handkerchief were still being sold in the early seventies. I have one from then that had a very modern Picasso like design. Whether you want to harken back to days gone by or perhaps make a unique fashion statement for now, they are a fun thing to add to your purse or pocket.

Handkerchiefs can have multiple uses. They can be used as a make shift altar cloth, tarot cloth, napkin or placemat when dining outdoors. They can also be used as part of a costume!

Handkerchiefs make great, inexpensive and unique gifts. They are great because one size fits all and many of my designs are unisex as well. They also make great party favors and can be used as a coordinated themed gift wrap for another gift.

My handkerchiefs are 100 % cotton. I either use them in the original white or I tea stain them to give them a more vintage look that might better match a particular design. The handkerchiefs are machine embroidered and are often finished with a machine sewn border, again, depending on the design.

Speaking of designs, I have a good variety of pagan theme as well as seasonal and other designs available in the store. My latest craze are Gods and Godesses, but more about them another time.

I have a special Handkerchief section in the shop and other handkerchiefs can be found scattered throughout the store.
